For as long as I can remember, helping others has been more than an act of kindness; it has been a way to honor who I am and give back to those who have lifted me along the way. I learned that at home. My mom, Mirian Santana, a proud member of BRIDGES at Lake Worth West, taught me that community isn’t just a place; it’s a family you choose, nurture, and protect.
My journey truly began in 9th grade when I joined the College Prep program at Family Impact Palm Beach County. Under the guidance of Ms. Mila and Ms. Joyel, I discovered something that changed my life: my future had value, my dreams were possible, and I was worthy of achieving them. They introduced me to colleges, scholarships, and opportunities I never knew existed, but more importantly, they taught me how to believe in myself.
With discipline, effort, and a lot of faith, I graduated high school with honors. Today, I’m pursuing a dream that once felt out of reach: flying. I have earned my private pilot license, and I’m working toward becoming a commercial pilot within the next two years. Every time I take off, I carry with me the people who believed in me.
But I’ve also learned that receiving support is only half the journey. The other half is giving it back. That’s why I’ve served my community with the same love and dedication that was given to me. I’ve been involved in:
• Food distribution to support families in need.
• Translation services for community members seeking to be heard and understood.
• Community cleanups to help keep our shared spaces clean and welcoming.
• Community events such as health fairs and resource fairs, where every smile reminded me why service matters.
My story isn’t just mine. It’s the story of what happens when a community believes in a young person, guides them, and lifts them higher than they could rise alone. It’s proof that when someone extends a hand, dreams don’t just grow—they take flight.
Thanks Onasis!
